CEREBUS No.161 (August, 1992)
FLIGHT issue #11

"Bran Mak Mufin -- the tadpole
who feared becoming a frog. An astute
observation on Suenteus Po's part (although
I think his belief in successive transmigrations of
human souls was delusional)."

I once wrote to Dave, asking him about the two-page spread in #300, where Cerebus sees the many supporting characters and many of them are beckoning him to follow them to the light. Mick and Keef particularly stand out. There was one character that kinda-sorta looked like Bran, but who was wearing barbarian garb.

I wrote the letter shortly after #300 came out. In the letter I asked Dave whether the barbarian was Bran, and if so, why would he be there, because suicide precludes heaven.

Dave replied that it wasn't Bran (with a new moderator, look for that letter eventually being posted here).

However, Larry H., apparently, asked Dave the same question and was told that it *was* Bran.

Comics Metaphysics, indeed!

Of course, now that Cerebus is (maybe, kinda, sorta) in Hell, it seems likely that Bran (and Mick, and Keefer, and Bear, and Jaka, et. al., [except Astoria, who seemed above it all]) were beckoning Cerebus to the wrong light. As the ending seemed to suggest.

A lesson worth revisiting, thirteen and one-half years later.

As Dave wrote, (paraphrasing) "If everyone you've ever known in your entire life is, in the afterlife, beckoning you to the light, do you really think that every single one of them got into heaven?"
